Since his initial emergence as Billy The Kid - the artist now known as Billy Early should be taken very very seriously around the regional music scene. The first time I heard his music was a crudely made video that was shot somewhere in Western Kansas. I watched the video, but didn't think much of it, and thus never posted it or looked further into his music. Since then Billy has come quite a long ways, both in his talents and his growing reputation.
While recently living in Los Angeles, Billy caught the ear of Grammy nominated music producer and BLAP lord !llmind. I had met !llmind some years prior in New York and was a big fan of his work, and I knew he was establishing his Roseville Music Group brand and looking for new music. Billy seemed quite the fit, as his sound was developing very quickly and he seemed to be reinventing his image. Roseville went on to release his hard hitting record Watch Out - produced by !llmind himself.
Since the Watch Out record - Billy has been working hard on his label debut EP. I had the honor of listening to this EP already - as I contributed to the production. We sat in his dad's car one night outside my studio and he played it front to back and I couldn't believe this was the same artist who years ago had such a different sound and went by the name Billy The Kid. His sound was much more developed. The songs had great structure and arrangement, which showcased all his talents as both a gifted emcee and versatile vocalist. To be frank, the music I heard that night was some of the best I've ever heard coming out of the Kansas City \ Lawrence \ Topeka arena.
Roseville has now released a second single with Crown Royalty, which shows his lyrical aggressive skill matched with a rock influenced Don P instrumental beneath him. The track also features well known Chicago MC ADD-2.
